First of a series of Sibshops held in Appleton and Neenah. A very
successful Sibshop organized by the Arc of Outagamie County hosted a in
1996, sparked the energy of a small group of parents and professionals to
offer Sibshops on a more regular basis in the Fox Valley. This year, six
Sibshops were offered to allow siblings ages 6-15 an opportunity to get
involved and make friends. Total attendance was 60.
July 27, 1998
The Fox Valley Sibling Support Network is granted 501 c3 tax-exempt
status. The board of directors launches a vision to provide not only
Sibshops, but raise awareness of the needs of individuals who had siblings
with special needs or long-term illnesses throughout the life-cycle…from
childhood through adulthood. Founder: Harriet Redman. Founding Board of
Directors: Barb Arndt, Amy and Craig Jordan, and Jim Johnson.

January 15, 2003
Hired first employee…part-time Executive Director, Harriet Redman. The job
was accountable for all administration, programs, marketing, fundraising,
public relations, volunteer recruitment and management, and grant writing.
New programs included SuperSibs for teen siblings, S.P.A . (Sisters are
Pretty Awesome) Sibshops for girls, H.U.L.K. (Huggable Unselfish Lovable
Kids) Sibshops for boys.
July 19, 2003
The first “day camp” style program called SibDays of Summer was held. This
3-day program offered a recreation and crafts program at a different park
each day. The purpose was to provide respite and fun for young siblings
mid-summer. The next year, SibDays of Summer was moved to Plamann Park and
schedule a full week in late July. This timing was established in order to
coincide with Camp Courage (now Camp Hope) a day-camp program for children
with disabilities also taking place at Plamann Park.

First Santa Celebration event for children with disabilities and their
siblings to meet Santa and enjoy a breakfast-time party.
July 22, 2005
The Fox Valley Sibling Support Network collaborates with ASPIRO of Green Bay
to offer Sib Camp. Previously, SIBS Camp was offered by a collaborative
effort by several surrounding counties. Funding was unfortunately
prohibiting counties from offering summer camps for siblings. By 2007, the
Fox Valley Sibling Support Network was the only organization offering a
summer sibling camp (overnights) experience and partnered with the Team
Leadership Center of Sturgeon Bay to offer camp for children ages 10 -15.
August 1, 2005
Hired second part-time employee, Adult Sibling Coordinator Sally Randa.
Responsibilities included organizing the first-ever WI adult sibling
conference.
April 28, 2006
First-ever WI Adult Sibling Conference for siblings and professionals. Held
at the new Big Picture theater, downtown Appleton, the theme of the
conference was “Looking at the Big Picture” and featured a movie night with
the movie Rain Man and speakers Dr. Darrold Treffert, consultant to the
movie, and Don Meyer, director of the Sibling Support Project.
May 30, 2006
A FVSSN Sibshop held in Oshkosh was featured on ABC World News and ABC
Nightline. Sibshop creator, Don Meyer, helped facilitate this Sibshop.
October 18, 2006
First “Celebrate Sisterhood” Fashion Show and Luncheon fundraiser held at
Riverview Country Club.
January 2007
First Future is Now! series launched to help adult siblings concerned about
the future of their brothers or sisters with special needs.
August 6, 2008
10th Anniversary picnic held at Pierce Park. 160 people attended,
including children who attend Sibshops and many adult siblings.
